Book Review: Resurrected Love by K. M. Daughters

Jack and Beth Dunne's marriage was torn apart by the sudden death of their infant son three years ago. Still very much in love with each other, they travel separately to Valselo on a pilgrimage to help a local orphanage. Can the power of forgiveness help heal their marriage?

K.M. Daughters has been one of my favorite authors for years. This sister writing team has a talent for creating memorable characters you can't help but care about. In Resurrected Love, those characters are the Dunnes--a husband and wife whose once loving marriage fell apart due to a man's guilt and a woman's need to blame someone after the loss of their child. Though they don't realize it, both are still very much in love with each other. But the wounds of the past don't seem to easily be forgiven or forgotten.

My favorite character, though, is neither of the Dunnes. It's Father Mark, a parish priest who Jack has known since high school, and who remains Beth's spiritual advisor. He hasn't given up on the Dunne's marriage yet. Guided by God, he asks each of them to join the pilgrimage.

This is very much a Catholic story. The Blessed Virgin and the Sacrament of Reconciliation play a role in the book. It also addresses the feeling of peace that is gained through confession. This is a very spiritual story. Resurrected Love deals with a difficult topic and a deep level of faith is held by most of the characters. This is definitely not a story you fly through and forget.

Resurrected Love is a moving story of love, faith and forgiveness. Beautifully written, it will pull at your heartstrings.
