Mailbox Monday - Oct 12

Mailbox Monday is a meme started by Marcia of To Be Continued. Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week. It now has a permanent home at the Mailbox Monday blog.

Hope you're enjoying a long weekend. To all my Canadian friends, Happy Thanksgiving! I'm sitting in my office typing this before I head out on an appointment. Check out my view.

I love this time of year. If I could live somewhere that it stayed fall all year round, I would be one happy camper.

These next two shots are from my walk with Theo yesterday.

This last one is just Travis being Travis. Is there any closet that is safe from him?

Now, on to books. My physical mailbox had one present last week. This one I am reading in November for a book tour.

Then I downloaded these two Kindle freebies.

An author friend of my sent me her latest book to review on my children's book blog. I'm enjoying the new WordPress even less than the new Blogger.

That's it from my neck of the woods. Hope you'll share some of your new books. Wishing you a blessed week.

Task it Tuesday - June 23

Originally created by The Geeky Blogger, Task it Tuesday is a weekly meme to help you--and me--get things done. The challenge is to post a task or list of tasks you want to complete before next Tuesday. These tasks can help you with your blogging life, reading life, personal or professional life.

I always try to have a light schedule right before we go away. Each year, my somewhat easy calendar gets filled with unexpected items that leave me scrambling. As such, I am not putting together a substantial task list for this week. I am going to concentrate on my sanity and making the week before we head out as stress-free as possible.

Here are a few things I would like to accomplish:

  • Finish packing by Thursday
  • Read a Bible verse each day
  • Vacuum
  • Check to make sure the cats have enough supplies so the pet sitter doesn't need to worry about anything
  • Take a deep breath before I open my mouth
Here's hoping you enjoy the rest of your week.

Task it Tuesday - June 2

Originally created by The Geeky Blogger, Task it Tuesday is a weekly meme to help you--and me--get things done. The challenge is to post a task or list of tasks you want to complete before next Tuesday. These tasks can help you with your blogging life, reading life, personal or professional life.

This week is quickly going to hell in a hand basket. I'm trying to stay positive. If I don't get a chance to clean the bonus room soon, I might smack my head against the wall. Well, not really. My hard head might break it. :)

Here is my list for the week
  1. Bible reading
  2. Meetings Monday, Wednesday, and Friday
  3. Cooking
  4. Editing more of The Sisterhood
  5. Clean bonus room
  6. Prospecting
  7. Vet for Giggle and Boots
  8. Home inspection Thursday
  9. Take this weekend off!!!!

What does your list look like this week? Have you accomplished a lot lately or do you feel like you're carrying over the same tasks week to week?

Guest Blogger: Kelly Preston, Author of Real Dogs Don't Whisper

The award winning book, Real Dogs Don't Whisper (www.realdogsdontwhisper.com), highlights my life journey caring for four special needs dogs and the life lessons they taught me along the way. The overall message within Real Dogs Don’t Whisper is about giving those with special needs a second chance. The book touches on integrity, unconditional love, leadership, trust, stopping abuse and opening your heart to receive and give both unconditional love and friendship. To lighten the message, I developed a co-author, Mr. MaGoo; Mr. MaGoo is my Lhasa Apso and he is larger than life. He adds humor within the book; sharing with the reader how life is so tough for him being the only male in the house and living with a crazy lady, me.

Our Pets Can Teach Us about Life –
The Importance of Consistency
by Kelly Preston

Thank you for having me stop by to increase awareness for special needs pets, it is amazing how much our pets can teach us about life. Special needs pets teach us much more than about love and friendship. They teach us about the meaning of second chances and miracles. They teach us about life. For instance, one life lesson that my special needs pets taught me was the importance of consistency and follow through. With several of them being on medication and some of the medication being time sensitive, I quickly learned through this experience the value of being there, consistently. If I missed any of the medications or was late, their health would take a turn for the worse. I signed up to be their provider and health care giver; their health and lives depended on me. When I quickly realized this, I gained the valuable lesson of follow through.

Based in San Jose, Calif., animal lover Kelly Preston is an award winning author of Real Dogs Don’t Whisper, a book in which she talks about her experiences and adventures with her special needs dogs and the life lessons they have taught – how she has learned and grown from them and they have learned and grown from her. Preston also produces Mr. MaGoo’s Corner, a free monthly dog-focused newsletter that features a reader of the month, birthday announcements, green pet tips, organic dog recipes and more. Kelly Preston also published a children’s picture and coloring book, Mister Spunky and His Friends; a book to teach children about love, friendship and helping others with special needs.

Mr. MaGoo is a nine-year-old Lhasa Apso and the book’s co-creator and co-writer. He is, in his own words, “the alpha and omega of all dogs – in the cutest and sparkiest, most fun-loving package ever.” Ignoring Kelly’s persistent eye-rolling, Mr. MaGoo has forged ahead with this project in an attempt to, as he puts it, “present the facts from a dog’s perspective. In other words, the correct, most accurate, most interesting, only-one-that-matters perspective,” to which he adds, simply, “Woof!”

April 2011 A to Z Blogging Challenge

What is the A to Z Challenge? It’s blogging a letter of the alphabet every day the month of April (with Sundays off for good behavior.) It began April 1st, with the letter A and ends April 30th, with the letter Z. You can click here to see who else is participating in this challenge.

Today's post is for the letter:

Meet Killer. He is our Maine Coon that we rescued from the shelter around six years ago. One of our cats had disappeared into the woods, and after waiting for his return for two years, we decided it was time to add another furry beast to our family.

Killer spent the first few days in hiding. Despite his name, he couldn't hurt a fly--even if he could catch one. This photo is about 2 years old, so he's even bigger now than he was then. His last weigh in put him at 18 pounds. Because of his long fur, we need to shave him every summer. I get a big kick out of it, since he looks a bit silly.

We love him, and he is by far the most personable cat we own. The kids can pick him up--with a great deal of effort--and carry him places. He follows us around the house much like a dog would, and he's not opposed to having his belly rubbed.

What kinds of pets do you have?
