How to Move from Blogger to WordPress Giveaway at Acting Balanced.

All the recent issues with Blogger have given me a reason to consider moving all my blogs to WordPress. I already have a blog on WordPress, so I'm familiar with it. No, it's not as user freindly as Blogger, but since I can't comment at blogs without updating my browser (I upgraded and it caused other issues so I backed it out) and the Followers widget is missing at one of my blogs, WordPress is looking better all the time.

Heather over at Acting Balanced is running a giveway for a copy of Sharon Hujik's How to Move from Blogger to WordPress book. If you're also considering the move, visit http://www.actingbalanced.com/2011/06/giveaway-and-review-how-to-move-from.html and enter this worldwide giveaway.

The Summer of Gomez! Contest

It's the Summer of Gomez!

Get free books and win a Kindle or iPod.

As reviewers have been calling “No Hope for Gomez!” the perfect summer read - light, fast, fun - I decided to give this summer's Gomez readers some exclusive content and the chance to win prizes.

About No Hope for Gomez!

It's the age-old tale:

 -   Boy meets girl.
 -   Boy stalks girl.
 -   Girl already has a stalker.
 -   Boy becomes her stalker-stalker.

We've seen it all before, many times, but this time it's different. If only slightly.

When Gomez Porter becomes a test subject in an experimental drug trial, he is asked to keep track of any strange experiences through a blog.

What Gomez isn't ready for, is so many of his experiences suddenly seeming strange; the antiques dealer trying to buy his old tax papers, the phone-sex salesman who hounds him day and night, the super sexy lab assistant who falls for him but is unable to express herself in terms outside the realm of science.

But when one of the trial participants turns up dead and another goes missing, Gomez begins to fear for his life. No longer sure who he can trust and which of his experiences are real and which merely drug induced delusions, he decides it's time to go underground and work out a devious plan.
Read a chapter.

Nominated for Book of the Year by both ForeWord Reviews and USA Book News, here's what reviewers have to say about "No Hope for Gomez!":

“Extremely witty and clever writing.” -- California Chronicle

"An unputdownable read. a Coens Brothers' film in book form." -- BookReview.com

"A veritable page turner of nonstop laughs!" -- Reader Views

"A Party for your Brain!" -- Warren Baxter

Warning: clinical studies have shown that reading this novel is likely to make you more attractive to the opposite sex and elevate your random luck by about 9.5%**

(** These statements have not been evaluated by any person of consequence!)

With every cool summer party comes a gift bag, so here's just some of the stuff all summer readers will get:
  • Exclusive new story collection
  • No Hope for Gomez: The Lost Chapters
  • Making of Gomez: behind the scenes eBook
  • Signed hi-res poster + bookplate

Additionally, several lucky readers will win a prize. I'm raffling off a Kindle, an iPod Nano 8GB, and five exclusive spin-off paperback novels that are not available elsewhere!

All you have to do to have a "Summer of Gomez" is get the book from any store before July 12th 2011 and forward your receipt to nohopeforgomez@gmail.com.(Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Amazon CA, Amazon UK, Amazon DE)

Every purchase counts as an entry so increase your chances by stocking up on some extremely cool birthday presents ;)

Points towards additional entries are gained by getting your friends to join in, and tweeting/blogging/face-booking (is that a verb?) about the summer of Gomez.

Giveaway: Once Read Copy of A Girl's Guide to Life by Katie Meier

Here is a portion of my review for this book as part of the Amazon Vine program:

"In A Girl's Guide to Life by Katie Meier, teen girls are treated to a book by someone who understands where they are coming from, who talks their language, and who isn't going to get all preachy on them. Yes, this is advice told from a Christian perspective, but not once does Meier talk down to the reader or come across judgmental.

Broken down into three sections--Mind, Body, and Soul--this book tackles issues important to teen girls: romance, peer pressure, beauty, fashion, sex and sexuality, and so much more!

The author shares some of her own experiences, which helps readers to know she remembers what it was like to be them. Throughout the book they will find Big Myths and and Real Deals, which share some of the misconceptions that young women might come across. Where necessary, there are resources with contact information where teens can find help if they need it.

This review copy has a slight bend in the front cover and a small blemish in the purple area under the title. The inside is in excellent condition.

Here are the rules and details for this giveaway:

Linda Weaver Clarke is up to her tricks again. She's giving away more books at her blog this week. The first one you'll find is for The Dawning of Power trilogy by Brian Rathbone.

"The Dawning of Power tells the story of Istra's return to the world of Godsland after a 3,000-year absence. In book one, Call of the Herald, we meet Catrin Volker, a teenage horse trainer. While trying to protect a friend, she inadvertently fulfills the prophecy of the destroyer, which claims she will destroy the Zjhon nation. Catrin's quest begins as she must face those who believe she is out to destroy them.

In book two, Inherited Danger, all of Godsland is at risk as massive weapons left over from the last age of power become once again viable. If left to charge in Istra's light, the weapons will detonate. Catrin and her friends set out on what seems an impossible quest to save even her enemies.

Back to the Homeplace by William Leverne Smith -- Interview and Giveaway at Linda Weaver Clarke's Blog

My friend, Linda Weaver Clarke, has another fabulous interview with a chance to win a free book posted at her blog today.

Here's more information on Back to the Homeplace by William Leverne Smith:

The Homeplace farm had been in her family for over 150 years. Mildred McDonald Bevins and her late husband were very concerned that it stay in her family intact as she prepared her will. Her children were scattered, and she felt the need to bring them all Back to the Homeplace. To assure this, she prepared an unusual will that required them to return to the Homeplace for two years in order to participate in the will bequests. The year is 1987 on the Homeplace in the hills and river valley of the Missouri Ozarks. The varied backgrounds and viewpoints of the adult children coming Back to the Homeplace ignite controversy and expose long kept secrets as each family member searches for his or her share of the family legacy. While the older family members stake their claims to land and fortunes, the younger ones search for love and acceptance. At the heart of the story is how we do or do not effectively communicate among family members - parents with children, among children and grandchildren. What happens when they come Back to the Homeplace?

William Leverne Smith was born and raised on a Midwestern farm. A passion for family history and genealogy studies provides background for his writing. He and his wife live in a cabin in the Missouri Ozarks.

You can find Bill online at http://eduscapes.com/v2a/william_leverne_smith.html and The Homeplace Series Blog

The Back to the Homeplace Giveaway runs from April 26th through May 4th, and is open to residents of the U.S. and Canada. Click here to visit Linda Weaver Clarke's blog for more details on how to enter.
