Tunes Tuesday
Tuesday is almost over, but I didn't want to say goodbye without posting something for Tunes Tuesday.
I don't know how many of you caught coverage of Whitney Houston's funeral, but I saw some of it. I watched the moving speech by Kevin Costner, her co-star in The Bodyguard. Much of what he spoke about makes you realize how easy it is for someone to lose their way. I'm going to miss what might have been for Houston, just like I hoped Michael Jackson would have had a powerful comeback. They were both lost too soon.
While Michael Jackson had been singing since childhood, I really didn't get into his music until the 80's when he released his Thriller album. Though I don't think I'll ever be a fan of zombies, I lived through the hype of Thriller and watched the video, along with those for other hits off the album like: "Billie Jean," "Beat It," and "The Girl is Mine," which featured Paul McCartney.
My favorite Jackson song, however, would come off his next album, Bad. "Man in the Mirror" peaked at number one in the United States when released as a single in January 1988. It was nominated for Record of the Year at the Grammy Awards.
"Man in the Mirror" was a call to action. It asked people to look at the person in the mirror and be the one to make a difference in the world; for the person you see reflecting back at you in the mirror to work toward bringing peace throughout the world and to help ease the suffering of those less fortunate. I believe Jackson wanted to be the type of person who made a difference. In the video for this song, you'll notice he only makes a brief appearance toward the end. When I think of Michael Jackson, I think of a man who had a lot to offer this world, but who ultimately, like Whitney Houston, was overwhelmed by his demons.
Do you have a favorite Michael Jackson song? Did you ever get a chance to see him in concert? I didn't, but I bet it was quite a show.
Book Spotlight: The Covering by Dana Pratola
What do a Christian woman and a faithless bike builder have in common? The devil, of course.

Tessa whirled away from him toward the door.
His hand was on her arm in a second. “Where do you think you’re going?” he asked. The sudden awareness of how slim her arm was in his grasp caused him to loosen his hold.
“I won’t stand here and argue with you,” she told him.
“Then let’s not argue.”
Slowly, he pulled her closer, watching the pulse jump in her neck. She didn’t resist when he lowered his mouth to hers.
Gunnar could have sworn her bones liquefied as she melted against him, into him. This was risky. It should stop. She was like a drug, the feel of her an addiction, and he feared if he didn’t break it off now, there would be no going back. He drank in a few more seconds before levering her away.
His own ragged breathing drowned out the sound of hers, but her mouth opened and closed, evidence that she too struggled to form a coherent sentence. Desire snapped in the air between them, and he turned away before it could draw him back.
What was he thinking, kissing her that way? He wasn’t—that was the problem. He hadn’t recognized how close he was to flashpoint and had allowed emotion to rule. Normally the emotion was anger. It was familiar, safe, he knew how to direct it, what to expect in retaliation.
But this…altogether different. In the short time he’d known Tessa, she had infiltrated his core needs, forcing him to reevaluate his objectives, making him realize he still wanted things he’d long ago dismissed as impossible: a home, children, stability. Consequently, he feared things he hadn’t before: isolation, failure, dependence. It was too much, too soon.
He hadn’t lied to her mother, he hardly knew her. Yet she had already influenced him in ways he couldn’t express. What would happen over time, six months maybe, when he became more attached and unable to let her go?
When Tessa finally realized who and what he was?
“We can’t do this,” he told her, looking back. Tessa stood frozen, catching her breath. “I won’t get us into a situation we’ll regret.”
“But…”
“You’re not ready for this.” The light of battle sparked to life in her eyes,
dissipating the haze of longing. “Neither am I.”
“Because I’m a virgin,” she said, disgusted.
“Yes.” He snapped the word out, but hearing the harshness of it, softened his tone. It wasn’t her fault he wanted her. Nor was he pushing her away because of her inexperience—at least not in the way she thought.
“You’re innocent and I’m not. In any sense of the word.”
Tessa crossed her arms. “So it’s your plan to keep turning me on and off like a light switch until when? Until you’re bored or decide to move back to your house?”
“I didn’t mean for this to happen.”
“You want me.”
It was a simple statement. He couldn’t have said why it sounded like a threat. “I do. But it’s not going to happen.”
Reviews!
"Ms. Dana Pratola has presented us with a book dissimilar to any other I've read. Her plot was solid. Her descriptions were graphically expressed and emotionally expressed. The powerful intensity of this book was almost unprecedented. The storyline was gripping. The in-depth look at someone facing life and death was fascinating to read. I haven't read anything to date that explored the act of praying God's care around another in quite this way."

"As always , I love the stories that come out from the White Rose Publishing House , they are so inspiring , sweet, suspenseful and romantic at times. Though every now and again, they publish an OMG story and THE COVERING by Dana Pratola is one of those books that everyone should read."
--Paula Phillips - The Phantom Paragrapher
"The Covering is a well written look into the lives of characters that are down-to-earth, engaging and 'living' with real-life ups and downs. From the first page to the last, I savored every moment reading this book, I absolutely LOVED it! It touched my heart, and gave me a new perspective on life. This author is gifted, and I look forward to reading many more of her books!"

Dana is a 40-something mother of 3 and wife of 25 years. She lives and works in her home state of New Jersey, where winters are tough but living someplace that doesn’t have Autumn would be tougher. Her favorite non-writing past time is walking in the woods with her husband, Rob.
Dana writes Christian Romance. Not the kind with women buttoned to the neck and men daring no more than to hold their hand after a long courtship, but the contemporary kind. She doesn’t write explicit sex scenes but her characters have real desires, struggles and choices to make. A lot of the time they make the wrong ones. No subject is prohibited but good always triumphs.

Feedback Time
At the beginning of the year, we began some new features:
- You've Got Mail Mondays
- Tunes Tuesdays
- WSJ Wednesdays
- Taking Time for Mom Thursdays
- Free for All Fridays
I wasn't sure how well they would be received, and I figured at some point I might need to be changing things up a bit. I'm reaching out to you to hear how you feel about these new features: what you like, what you don't like, what else you would like to see. Everyone likes giveaways, but other than that, what else would you like to see here.
I've opened two polls in the sidebar. One asks which new feature you like best and the other is looking for your ideas on what can be added.
Please don't be shy. Share so that I can try to provide what you are looking for. Feel free to expand upon your poll choices here.

Favorite Series
The Discover a Series giveaway is being sponsored by Year Of Jubilee Review, A Single Country Gal & Her Cat, Sea Side Book Nook, The Jolly Blogger, and Life Happens With Kids! As part of this giveaway, I am blogging about a favorite series. While I could have gone with The Left Behind Series by Jerry Jenkins and Tim LaHaye--which is definitely a fabulous series--I opted to go with one of the first series of books I fell in love with: the Civil War trilogy by Michael and Jeff Shaara.
The first book I read is actually the second in the series, The Killer Angels by Michael Shaara. The inspiration for the movie, Gettysburg, starring Tom Berenger, Martin Sheen and Jeff Daniels, the book brings this bloody battle from the War Between the States to life for readers.
Gods and Generals and The Last Full Measure are written by Jeff Shaara. Gods and Generals covers the years in the life preceding the Civil War and the battle where they would meet. The Last Full Measure follows the surviving historical figures after Gettysburg.
For many years, I only read nonfiction, the majority of the books were about the Civil War. I don't buy as many books on the conflict as I used to, but if something unique pops up I will. For many years I had avoided fiction set during the war because much of what was out there was romance novels and I didn't care to read those at the time. This series ended up being perfect for me because even though it allowed the reader into the families whose lives were torn about by the conflict, the main focus remains the war that divided the nation.
A series I would love to read is the First Responder Series by Loree Lough. I read the opening chapter of the first book and am eager to read more.
How about you? What is a series you've enjoyed and one you would like to read?

You've Got Mail Mondays!
I think last week everything moved slower. My stats weren't as high as they have been lately, and my mail consisted mostly of junk. The only thing I appreciate getting is my copy of Beyond Molasses Creek by Nicole Seitz. I won it from a contest run by Thomas Nelson. Having seen the reviews this book is getting, I'm fairly sure I'll enjoy it.
If someone would like to take my Summons for Juror Service, I would greatly appreciate it. The one downside to being on the good side of the law your whole life is that you seem to get called for jury duty often. This will be the fifth or sixth time I've been called. I've sat on one case so far. It's always for the same location too--which is in a less than ideal area.
Hope your mail carrier had more excitement for you than it did for me.
