Now I'm really going to show my age. On March 13, 1969, The Love Bug opens in theaters. While I was only eight months old when this Walt Disney movie was in theaters, I recall watching it on television at some point. The movie is about the adventures of a Volkswagen Beetle named Herbie, and was based upon the book, Car, Boy, Girl by Gordon Buford (this I did not know).
Not only was the VW Bug gaining popularity at this time in the United States, but The Love Bug provided an escape for Americans from the horrors of Vietnam news.
